Foreword from Principal

“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. But education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society. The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason but no morals. We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character that is the goal of true education.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

Welcome to SMK VIDHYASHRAM & JUNIOR COLLEGE!

SMKV & JC, is a unique school with an extraordinary history, tradition and set of opportunities for all who come here, whether students, staff or parents. SMKV & JC focuses on the students, is committed to quality in teaching and learning programmes, and is dedicated to continuous improvement in policies and procedures and systems which empower and enable people.

Warm greetings from SMKV & JC !

I am honoured to be the Principal of SMKV & JC, and I am particularly thankful to be surrounded by a dedicated and service minded management team, committed teachers, supportive parents, and of course, a great group of students that always seem to make our efforts supremely worthwhile. I am excited for the opportunities for much learning and growth that await us here at SMKV &JC in the forthcoming years, and I am confident, as always, that our greatest strength lies in our commitment to community; to the crafting together of a shared vision.

As a school, we are first and foremost dedicated to the process of learning. This happens in the classroom when we pair dedicated teachers with motivated students and place high expectations on the results. And the great thing at SMKV & JC  is that we also expect learning to happen in so many ways outside the classroom as well. I put it this way at the opening assembly: “[Learning] happens when we learn directly about a new culture…not from a textbook but from our peers, or a new friend. It happens on a field trip when we are exposed to the real world, to authentic experience, to exciting new places and new people. It happens on the sports field, in the literary club, in an extracurricular club, on a social experience outing in the community and at camp. Learning grows out of our successes and failures. It happens when we study, work, talk, play, pray, share, reflect, argue…and when we make up. Granted, it doesn’t happen all the time, but a community that is imbued with the spirit of learning finds that learning is an ongoing continuous process that fills the learner with well-being, confidence, and a desire to always learn more. Let us continue to be that place.”

A committee with a diverse representation of SMKV & JC stakeholders – staff, parents, and students, will continue to meet to contemplate our school’s identity, values, our purpose and our actions. Parents, we see you very much as important partners in the education of your children and a pillar of support to school. Please know that we continue to welcome your presence, your involvement, your support, and your feedback.

“True education is the harmonious development of the physical, mental, moral (spiritual), and social faculties, the four dimensions of life, for a life of dedicated service.”
