By Lord Muthukumaraswamy’s blessings and grace, Shree P.Balasubramanian, founder of SMD Educational Society was founded in 1978 with a vision of providing man making, character building, value based education to the rising generation of boys and girls. The first school was named as SMD P.Venugopal Chetty Primary School, Purasawalkam in 1978 .This was followed by SMD Hindu Primary school, Parktown in 1979,Kanda Kottam Nursery and Primary School, Purasawalkam in 1980, SMD Hindu Higher Secondary School, Parktown in 1986,P.Venugopal Chetty Higher secondary School, Purasawalkam in 1989 and SMD kanapiran Padmavathi Primary School in 1990. The growth of the institutions shows steady progress within four decades. They have grown tremendously by serving the downtrodden and underprivileged children of the society in all its dimensions. “Excellence in Education” is the prime policy of SMK Vidhyashram.
